The seven subfamilies of horizontally moved LINE retrotransposons we identified in the olive sea snake (Aipysurus laevis) are transcribed, and hence tend still active and broadening across the genome. A search of 600 metazoan genomes found all seven were missing from various other amniotes, including terrestrial elapids, with all the most comparable LINEs present in fish and marine invertebrates.
