Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a group of naturally occurring bacteria that colonises the anogenital region of every third pregnant woman. From the anogenital region they can colonise the urine and cause bacteriuria. It is well documented that treatment of GBS-bacteriuria with more than 10⁴ colony forming units per millilitre (CFU/ml) reduces the risk of maternal and neonatal morbidity. There is, however, no clear evidence as summarised in this review that GBS-bacteriuria more than 10⁴ CFU/ml increases the risk of maternal and neonatal morbidity whi
