A biorefinery approach was applied for pectin extraction, xylooligosaccharides' (XOs) and bioethanol production from cocoa pod husk (CPH) using citric acid-assisted hydrothermal pretreatment. Under optimal conditions at 120° C, 10 min and 2% w.v-1 of citric acid a high pectin recovery (19.5%) with high content of uronic acids (41.9%) was obtained.
