World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading Upgrades to items allow players to increase an item's gear score up to 700 and also add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory and heading to the kiln. Certain items can be upp'd to benefit from their unique stats (like an ideally rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while other items, such as weapons don't change much post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.
