ADHD in Women and Girls ADHD is often mistakenly diagnosed in girls and women because the signs aren't as evident. It is possible to misdiagnose them as other disorders which may delay the referral. The signs of anxiety, depression and eating disorders among females with ADHD should be explored and treated in the appropriate way. Periods of transition such as adolescence and pregnancy can also cause or exacerbate ADHD symptoms in some women. 1
