World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses like damage from PvE and crit chance. If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will gain an additional 3% of the previous damage for each time it is upgraded.
