It has been established that an in situ-generated cationic platinum(II)/rac-BINAP complex catalyzes the intramolecular dearomative 5-endo spirocyclization of N-(methylnaphthalenyl)propiolamides via the deprotonation-protonation sequence (formal aromatic ene reaction).
