The role of such pathways in the tolerance to salt stress was analyzed by the use of mutant defectives for Δtbdr (iron uptake), ΔmtlK and ΔotsA (compatible solutes synthesis), and ΔdegP (quality control of nascent extracytoplasmic proteins).
