No differences in attenuation of runoff toxicity were found between plots with and without vegetation. The data were incorporated into models to estimate the minimum widths of safety to reduce the toxicity of 2,4-D by 90% under these conditions, suggesting distances of 5 and 20 m for low-slope and high-slope zones, respectively. In laboratory experiments, lower relative toxicity of 2,4-D was detected when natural water was used as solvent.
