798eeb4e9f3243 A Christian girl sets out of India to bring home artists who are persecuted in Pakistan, but ends up finding something more important.

Jannat is a passionate artist living in Pakistan. She's an illustrator for children's books, and she hopes that one of her designs will eventually become a children's cartoon series on TV. But this dream doesn't come true the first time, so Jannat has to keep at it. One day, she decides to take a break from work and head outside for some fresh air - only the fresh air she encounters isn't so fresh, at least not if you're an artist trying to paint someplace traditional.

Jannat is accosted by the police on the street, and they haul her along to the station for some kind of trouble. But when her charges are dropped at some point, Jannat heads back outside, only to find herself cornered by more police officers. These officers won't listen to any of Jannat's pleas for mercy, but soon one of them steps away from his post and notices that there's something in Jannat's bag that he might be interested in.

It's none other than an illustration for a children's book that Janna had been working on; she had drawn Naira, a child who is very much like her own daughter. But Naira isn't just a child. She's a refugee, running away from religious persecution at home, and living her life as an illegal immigrant in Pakistan. Janna had also drawn the house that she lives in - one that's being routinely razed down by the government.

The officers realize their own mistake once they hear the story behind the illustrations - Janna herself is a Christian who fled to Pakistan years ago to avoid persecution after converting to Islam (she's now an atheist), and she's desperately trying to get back home with some of her work as a form of cultural diplomacy between the two countries. But she's a woman in a man's world, and soon her predicament becomes dire. The police officer that Janna had gotten to know earlier, Shafeeq, helps the artist get home safely.

Jannat eventually makes it back to her homeland with Shafeeq's help - but she returns with more than just Naira and some work. She also brings back the power of art and imagination, and their role in protecting our planet from destruction.Raja Sen composed the soundtrack for this movie. The lyrics were penned by Kaveree Bamzai and Varsha Bhosle.

The film was premiered in Mumbai on 27 September 2015. The film was released in India on 30 September 2015 and received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

Times of India gave the Tubelight a rating of 3 out of 5 stating "Tubelight is so unapologetically sentimental that it will need to be swept up on waves of its own overpowering emotion". Bollywood Hungama news website gave Tubelight a rating of 2.5 out of 5 saying "Tubelight is powered by its earnest performances and some meaningful moments, but on the whole, the film disappoints".
