How to Buy a German Driving License If you're an expat living in Germany it is likely that you will have to exchange your current license for one that's a German one. The rules differ based on the country where the license was issued in the first place. You will need to make an appointment at the Burgeramt and bring your original license along with photo of your passport. You will be notified within a few weeks when your license is ready for take home. H
