Treatment of Add in Adults Adults with add are typically treated with an amalgamation of medications therapy, psychotherapy and life-skills training. The majority of patients respond to stimulant drugs such as methylphenidate (Ritalin), and amphetamines such as the lisdexamphetamine (Adderall XR) or extended-release mixed amphetamine salts. The effects of stimulants can raise heart rate and blood pressure. Nonstimulants such as atomoxetine or bupropion can also improve ADHD symptoms.
