Gas Safety Certificates For Landlords Landlords have a legal responsibility to make sure that all gas home appliances and fittings in their residential or commercial properties are safe. This is done by having a Gas Safe registered engineer check all gas home appliances and produce a CP12 certificate. Landlords are needed to give these documents to renters within 28 days of the examination. Property owners do not require these certificates, however are encouraged to have them for peace of mind. E
