Mass spectrometry experiments suggested that the decay product is a sulfenylamide (HSA-SN(R'R″). Chromatofocusing analysis showed that the overoxidation with hydrogen peroxide predominates at alkaline pH whereas the spontaneous decay predominates at acidic pH.
