Maple urine syrup disease (MSUD) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by deficient activity of the branched-chain alpha ketoacid dehydrogenase (BCKAD) enzymatic complex due to biallelic variants in the alpha (BCKDHA) or beta (BCKDH subunits or the acyltransferase component (DBT).
