Mental Health Test - What You Need to Know Mental health tests involve an array of tests and observations conducted by professionals. It could take between 30 and 90 minutes, based on the purpose of the test. The assessment may include verbal or written tests. You could be asked questions about your nutritional supplements, medications or herbal remedies. A primary care physician can diagnose mental illness but will often refer the patient to a psychiatrist or psychologist for more detailed testing.
