Mental Health Assessment A mental health evaluation consists of an array of tests and questions. Your doctor will ask you about your family history, medications, and your symptoms. They will also do a basic physical exam and may request lab tests like blood work, thyroid function testing or toxicology tests. You may have taken written or oral tests as well. These tests could include intelligence and cognitive functioning tests and measures of insight, judgment, and looseness of associations.
