An innovative g-C3N4 catalyzed surface-initiated photo atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-photoATRP) has been developed to construct MEDSAH zwitterionic polymer brushes on PVA hydrogel surface. g-C3N4 catalyzed SI-photoATRP is temporal and spatial control.
