World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading The upgrade of an item lets players increase the gear rating of an item by up 700 points, and then add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory and heading to the kiln. Certain items can be upp'd for their unique stats (like perfect made breakpoint armour that can be rolled to use in melee PvP) while others like weapons don't change much post upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.
