Here we describe an airborne lidar study and excavations for the formerly unknown website of Aguada Fénix (Tabasco, Mexico) with an artificial plateau, which steps 1,400 m in length and ten to fifteen m in level and it has 9 causeways radiating out from it. We dated this building to between 1000 and 800 BC making use of a Bayesian evaluation of radiocarbon dates. To our understanding, here is the oldest monumental building ever found in the Maya area plus the biggest in the entire pre-Hispanic history of
