Fragile X-associated tremor ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CGG trinucleotide expansion from 55 to 200 repeats in the non-coding region of the fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene (FMR1).
